What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the process of improving a website so that it can appear higher in search engine results on platforms such as Google and Bing. The main goal of SEO is to increase organic traffic, which means visitors coming to a website without the business paying for every click. For example, if someone searches for “best digital marketing course in Delhi”, Google shows several websites on the search results page. SEO helps a website improve its chances of appearing among the top results for searches that are relevant to its products, services, or information. SEO mainly works in three important areas: On-Page SEO, Off-Page SEO, and Technical SEO. On-Page SEO focuses on optimizing the content and elements available on a website. It includes using relevant keywords, creating useful and high-quality content, writing proper page titles and meta descriptions, using headings correctly, optimizing images, and adding internal links between related pages. The content should answer the user’s question clearly instead of simply repeating keywords. Off-Page SEO includes activities that improve a website’s reputation and authority outside the website itself. One of the most common examples is earning backlinks from other relevant and trustworthy websites. Brand mentions, digital PR, and other external signals can also support a website’s online authority. Technical SEO ensures that search engines can properly access, crawl, understand, and index a website. Important technical factors include website speed, mobile friendliness, HTTPS security, proper site structure, XML sitemaps, robots.txt configuration, canonical tags, and fixing broken pages or indexing problems. Keyword research is another important part of SEO. It helps businesses understand what people are searching for and what type of content they should create. However, modern SEO is not only about inserting keywords into articles. Search engines aim to provide users with helpful, relevant, trustworthy, and easy-to-use information. SEO is important because people frequently use search engines before buying a product, selecting a service, learning something, or comparing different options. A website with good search visibility can attract potential customers consistently. Unlike paid advertising, where traffic can decrease when advertising spending stops, SEO can continue generating organic traffic when useful content and website quality are maintained. In simple words, SEO means making your website easier for search engines to understand and more useful for people, so that relevant pages have a better opportunity to appear in search results and attract the right audience.
